GS1 Hong Kong (formally known as Hong Kong Article Numbering Association) and a group of forward-thinking apparel & textile companies supported by the SME Development Fund of Trade and Industry Department of HKSAR Government, joined hands to develop the standards and propagate this key message to the industry at large. This new standardization movement coined "Apparel and Textiles Express (AppTeXpress) - a global way to express Apparel & Textiles" was started in November 2002 to develop and adopt an industry standard for the upstream part of the apparel & textiles supply chain. Through the adoption of the industry standards, the connectivity between business partners and their customers on business communication were improved as well as giving impetus for companies to enhance their core business operations.
